Where Does the Training Take Place?

West Coast Training is a heavy equipment training school located in Washington State. How Long Is the Course?

The crane operator and rigger training course is an eight-week course with the goal of training entry-level Mobile Crane Operators. During this time, students spend roughly 50 percent of their time working in the classroom learning ASME Standards and OSHA regulations for the machines they’ll be working on. They also learn the proper setup of cranes, wire rope reeving, crane safety, load charts, and proper operating methods.

The other 50 percent of their time will be spent in the field performing mobile crane operations. With the guidance of experienced professionals, students practice smooth operating techniques, designed lifts, rigging, and signaling.

What Certifications Will Be Earned?

After successful completion of the eight-week course, graduates will earn a series of certifications that they can use for their new careers. Students must finish the course and then pass all exams to receive their six NCCCO certifications which include the following: (TSS) fixed cab hydraulic crane, (TLL) swing cab hydraulic crane, (LBT) lattice boom truck crane, (LBC) lattice boom crawler crane, (BTF) boom truck fixed cab crane, and (STC) service truck crane.

These certifications will signify that they are competent in operating large hydraulic, small hydraulic, and lattice boom trucks and crawl-mounted mobile cranes.

What Other Programs Are Available for Crane and Rigger Operators?

In response to the newly revised OSHA regulations that require crane operators to be certified through a nationally accredited agency, West Coast Training has begun offering a mobile crane operator preparation course. This course lasts between one and three days and is especially recommended for operators that are seeking their five-year recertification.

This classroom-only session is created specifically for people already working in the construction industry on cranes and can result in earning the following certifications: Lattice Boom Crawler (LBC), Lattice Boom Truck (LBT), telescopic boom swing cab (TLL), and telescopic boom fixed cab (TSS).
