What Are My Course Options at the West Coast Training Center?
At the West Coast Training center, we offer different courses to suit your needs and interests. We have training in eight-week heavy equipment operations, four-week mobile crane operator, eight-week crane operator/rigger, and more. We are an Accredited Training Unit for the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) for our Heavy Equipment Training program and National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) for our Crane program.
If you’re looking to become properly trained in heavy equipment operation and crane operation, look no further than West Coast Training center.
Heavy Equipment Operator – 8 weeks
In our heavy equipment operator eight-week course, students receive both classroom instruction and hands-on experience. The classroom setting is an intimate one, as there are no more than 12 students per class, which guarantees each student gets the personal attention they deserve. This course is quite rigorous and is full-time. Training is held 10 hours a day, 50 hours per week, over the span of 8 weeks.
From Monday to Thursday, five hours a day are spent in the classroom and the other five hours are spent in the field. Fridays are entirely spent in the training field. In this course, students are prepared for surface mining, forestry, heavy construction, industrial, and recycling industries.
NCCCO Mobile Crane Operator & Rigger – 8 weeks
In this course, students graduate as NCCCO-certified Construction Crane Operators/Riggers, handling self-erecting tower cranes, luffing-jib, hammerhead, hydraulic boom mobile cranes, and lattice boom mobile cranes. Students receive a mix of classroom and field training, spending about half of their time handling actual equipment.
In the field, students experience hands-on training and practice rigging loads with hook block and overhaul ball, and using the concrete bucket, clam-shell, or drag-line attachments. We take pride in the fact that the atmosphere of our class mimics the conditions eventually faced in the workplace.
NCCCO Mobile Crane Operator – 4 weeks
This course mimics the first half of the eight-week NCCCO Mobile Crane Operator & Rigger course. However, it requires less time because students only become certified in mobile cranes and not the other equipment discussed above.
This course totals up at 160-hours, and once completed, graduates are able to obtain six NCCCO Mobile Crane Operation certificates and are successfully trained to operate large hydraulic, small hydraulic, and lattice boom truck and crawler mounted mobile cranes. As in the eight-week course, about more than 50 percent of the training happens in the field with students performing mobile crane operation.
Seminars and Exams
In addition to the above three courses, we are pleased to offer various training seminars for those who want to upgrade their skills and earn NCCCO crane certifications. We offer practical exams in Fixed Cab Hydraulic, Swing Cab Hydraulic, Lattice Boom, Tower Crane, Rigger Level 1, and Signalperson.
